Word Bones, 2003
mixed media photo-emulsion
This project combines a passion for structure with an embrace of entropy, the beauty in degeneration and decay. Using a photo-emulsion process, my photographs of figures forming letters of the alphabet have been printed onto drawn, painted, collaged, carved, and abraded wood panels. Fragmented figural elements are embedded within brown and grey chemical washes, brightly colored shapes, fragile veils, and turbulent clouds hovering at indeterminate depths within a haze of polished encaustic. The prints were made with the assistance of Jamie Treacy.
